Hydraulic grabs to suit mini-excavators and truck cranes, designed to handle a wide range of kerb types without manual assistance.
The hydraulic kerb stone grab KSG made by Idrobenne is a gripping device with a single moving jaw. The equipment is put in motion by a hydraulic double-acting cylinder, coupled to a safety valve which prevents the loss of the cargo if a sudden drop in pressure occurs during use. They are entirely made of high-tensile, SSAB Swedish steel. The solid grip on the brick is guaranteed by a nylon pad and two softer polyurethane rollers. Unique jaw design enables the excavator operator to grab the kerbs directly from the pack, with no damage to the kerb surface, and to place them to a line, onto the kerb race without manual assistance. The clamping takes place in the sense of the width of the brick, so the kerb stones can be put in place directly. They can be lined lengthwise one next to the other, without the intervention of a walking operator to close the gap left by the clamps. Kerb stone grabs KSG are offered in two models, with 80 and 400 kg lifting capacity. They have been tested with large safety margins to the maximum permissible load.
This hydraulic tool, which following the technical description may seem ordinary, has been a real turning point in road construction. In fact, traditionally, the laying of pavement curbs was carried out by at least two men, on foot, who had to lift the bricks manually with the help of mechanical clamps. This was not only an expensive system, due to high labor cost, but it was above all dangerous for the health of workers. For this reason, when the law of some foreign countries, first of all England, started to ban the manual handling of heavy loads, Idrobenne conceived this light and versatile hydraulic grab. Since then, KSG grabs have become the undisputed reference between hydraulic clamps for lifting objects, becoming the market standard and recording several attempts of imitation.
Lifting the curbs widthwise with a hydraulic clamp has proved to be both original and ingenious. The best known competitors offer tools which grip the bricks in length, but this design doesn’t allow the final laying (a small gap must be left between the bricks to allow the jaws to slip off). Thanks to Idrobenne’s KSG, however, a single operator can lay the curb directly in place, without the need for a second intervention of a worker on foot. The KSG allows to put the curbs directly in place, one adhering to each other, side by side. This is the reason why Idrobenne’s kerb stone grabs have been chosen by the most recognized brands and dealers of earthmoving equipment such as CAT, JCB, Kubota, Takeuchi, Terex and Volvo. They are also suitable for hydraulic truck cranes as Fassi, Palfinger, Hiab, Hyva and PM Cranes.
Both jaws of the grab are covered with scratch-resistant, replaceable pads that maintain the full integrity of the curb while laying. This avoids unnecessary material waste due to scratches caused by conventional lifting devices. Furthermore, kerb stone grabs can be equipped with a comprehensive range of accessories, the most popular of which are hydraulic rotators and even a free mechanical rotator with handlebar. These accessories allow the operator to orient the brick precisely before putting it in the desired position. The rotation devices are bolted on the upper part of the equipment, which is constituted by a flange with 4 holes on a 140x140 mm pattern. The grabs have to be mounted on mini-excavators and truck cranes through a cardan suspension link (pendulum), which can also be provided by Idrobenne as an optional. Kerb stone grabs, when provided of the most proper accessories, can really boost the performance of each and every road construction site by optimizing labor cost and working safely.
In many cases, it was the safety standards at work and health protection to impose the use of hydraulic kerb stone grabs. So, a lot of Companies decided to buy these clamps just because they were forced to. But many reports claim that even the Companies that at first chose KSG only to accomplish the law, soon realized that these tools could speed up the laying operations and the work in general. The performance of the KSG is much better than any manual clamp. In some construction yards, through the use of KSG hydraulic clamp, it was found that the initial investment was paid off after only a few weeks of work. This is because the productivity and the working speed is increased, with the cost of labor more than halved. Idrobenne accessories are designed following very stringent safety criteria.
